CMC PLAN TO DEGRADE WOMEN DEFEATED-6/10/05
In a late-night speech to State Parliament last Friday, Beattie Government Parliamentary Secretary Kerry Shine rejected Crime and Misconduct Commission recommendations to allow young women to be explicitly sexually degraded for the entertainment of men.
This follows a six-month campaign by a group of Community Minded Councillors from around Queensland urging the State Government to drop the plan.
One of the organisers of the campaign and this website, Toowoomba City Councillor Lyle Shelton, welcomed Mr Shine’s speech.
“This is a clear indication that the Government is going to bury the CMC’s controversial recommendation 7, which allows for men to be entertained by naked young women performing live acts of genital self-penetration and lesbian sex in certain strip clubs,” Cr Shelton said.
“We would like to thank the 16,600 people from all over Queensland who signed our petition which was presented to Parliament last August. Your voices were heard loud and clear in George St.
“This is a victory for the dignity of all women. It is our hope that this marks a turning of the tide against a rampant sex trade seeking greater legitimacy in our society.”
Cr Shelton also thanked the many politicians from the ALP, The Nationals, Liberals and Independents who lent their support to the campaign.
He paid tribute to his fellow Community Minded Councillors who organised the campaign.
“I used to think ‘bloody perverts’, and then wonder if they’d be cheering all their mates on if their daughters were doing this sort of work.” – “Charlie”, student stripper quoted in Students Working in the Melbourne Sex Industry.
Alarming proposals to legalise more sexual degradation of
vulnerable young women are suggested by Queensland’s Crime and Misconduct Commission..
The CMC is recommending that the State Government expand the activities
of the sexual exploitation industry, through legalising graphic and explict
sexual acts.
It Is Proposed To:
Legalise the use of fully nude young women performing live acts of genital self penetration and lesbian sex for the entertainment of men.
Make it easier to obtain permits to run this type of "entertainment". ie. "It can come to a pub or club near near you"
Allow persons previously banned from the sexual exploitation industry due to criminal and/or drug offences to now be granted licences to own or operate venues.
Our Aim...
www.respectforwomen.com.au seeks the rejection
of the CMC's recommendations by the Queensland Government and all State
Parliamentarians.
